In March 1966, Neil Armstrong and David Scott made history by completing the first docking in space during the Gemini 8 mission. This achievement marked a significant milestone in human spaceflight.
Shortly after the successful docking, a stuck thruster caused the Gemini 8 capsule to spin uncontrollably, reaching a rotation rate of once per second. This rapid spinning blurred the astronauts' vision and posed a serious risk of unconsciousness.
Faced with this life-threatening situation, Armstrong demonstrated exceptional skill and composure. He shut down the main control system and utilized the re-entry thrusters to stabilize the spacecraft, ultimately saving both astronauts.
